Providing drinking water by Suprio Das

When the slogan “Roti, Kapda aur Makan” i.e. “food, clothing and housing” was coined first, Indian sub-continent was a water abundant country and therefore water was not considered to be necessity that should be fought for. Science explains the requirement of water intake in our body.
Suprio Das, in his presentation gives us a figure which explains that each minute a child dies in India due to water borne diseases. Even though 70% of earth is made up of water, researches show that every year the level of safe drinking is depleting at an alarming speed.
Water, clean and safe to drink must be right of each individual.  In the recent past we heard about an incident of water contamination in a factory in Bangladesh. In other we heard of another case of water contamination at a construction site. Even some parts of Delhi, capital city of our nation faced a major challenge when the municipality water was contaminated in some parts of the city.
Diarrhoea, Cholera, Hepatitis B…these are the disease that are curable. However, put in the poor rural infrastructure, poverty and lack of medical facility and they can turn out to be deadly.
With Suprio Das’s presentation, we see a light of hope to be a nation free of these death tolls. Addition of chlorine, a method so simple yet seldom implemented can help save many lives. Suprio Das with his simple engineering marvel is out with a great drive to provide clean safe drinking water.
I salute to Suprio Das for his movement to provide us with the most basic necessity and at the same time raising awareness.

  5. We forget to appreciate the things we have and take for granted. Thank you for the reminder of how precious and scarce that which many see as abundant truly is.
